PhoneBook Plus and PhoneBook DA is multi-featured DA and program set with many niceties for handling that long list of names and addresses usually managed by a Rolodex, Hypercard, or some other clumsy tool. It sports the slickest interface around, extensive phone dialing features, envelope printing, and a robust phone call timer. For those of you who never found the perfect phone DA, this may be it!
PhoneBook Plus has all of the features the DA has, plus it can open multiple files, import and export text files, print reports and display the phone log.

2.8
There are two new preferences in the Document Preferences dialog box for phone books. If ‘Display Company and Name’ is selected, Phonebook displays both the company and the name in the main window. Which comes first depends on whether you have List by Name or List by Company selected. If ‘Display Phone Number Label’ is selected, Phonebook displays the phone number label next to the phone number in the main window (see below).
Two additions to the edit window. The first is a third phone number slot. The second are popup menus next to each phone number. Specify what type of phone number this is by choosing a type from the popup menu to the left. If you choose the last item, which defaults to Other, you can make your own label. If you have ‘Display Phone Number Label’ selected, these labels appear in the main window. They also appear on reports regardless.
In the main window, if you hold down the ‘3’ key, you can toggle the display to the third phone number, just like the ‘2’ key gives you the second phone number.
Yet more dialing controls. The problem with dialing cutting out and giving errors in the DA version should now be fixed. In addition, the Dial Setup dialog box gives two additional settings. ‘Dial Without Interruptions’ lets you do complex dialing without Phonebook asking you for each additional piece of the dialing sequence. If you use this option, be sure to use commas to insert necessary pauses so your dialing sequence doesn’t jump the gun. You can override this setting any time by holding down the option key as you dial.
‘Ask Me When To Hang Up’ makes Phonebook perform as before--displaying a dialog box asking you when you’ve answered the phone. Its new alternative, ‘Automatically Hang Up After __ Seconds,’ lets you automatically hang up after a specified number of seconds. This option only applies if you’re dialing via modem.
There is a new feature in the File menu called Combine. What is does is this:
Whenever you make a new record, Phonebook remembers when it was first created and, essentially, what the machine was on which it was created. Whenever you change a record, Phonebook remembers the time that it was changed. Thus, it can keep track of changes to records with a high degree of accuracy.
Combine lets you select a phonebook file to be combined with the current phoneook. For every record in the file you select, Phonebook looks for a match in the current file. If it finds a match, it substitutes the newer record for the older one.
Combine is meant for users who work with their own phonebooks, but occasionally want to create a consolidate their work. This feature lets you create a “master” file by taking the most recent version of any given record.
There is also an “Add Records With No Match” checkbox. When comparing records from the file you select, if Phonebook does not find a match for a given record, it will add that record if you select this option. Otherwise, it won’t. You may want to leave this option off so you don’t create a master list with everyone’s mothers’ and hairdressers’ phone numbers.
Since this feature switches and adds records in bulk, there’s a good chance you will drastically change the contents of your phonebook file. Combine warns of this fact before you do anything you don’t understand. If you’ve read this far, you know all about Combine, so go ahead and click Yes. Remember, you can always choose not to save your changes by clicking No when you close the file, or, if you have “Confirm File Saves” turned off, by holding down the option key as you close the file.
2.8a Whoops. The new Phone Label feature wasn’t saving when you clicked the OK button. This bug was fixed.
